BROKEN SILENCES

Below are links to some of the submissions we have received. Should you read them, all we ask is that you do so with an open heart, an open mind, without judgement, and with a sincere appreciation for the bravery required to break these silences.

Some stories may contain sexually explicit details and offensive language.

GOLDIE'S STORY: The story of partner violence is not one woman's story, but rather the story of us all - women and men. As an act of reciprocity and fellowship, Goldie, BSP's founder, shares her own story.

MARIA'S ALIENATION: Time heals all wounds. Or does it? Many survivors of partner violence will tell you that a bruise will go away. A broken rib will heal. But emotional abuse can leave a scar that lasts a lifetime. Maria's positive spirit and forward-looking outlook give us faith that her emotional scars will not haunt her for life. Yet her account illustrates just how deep-seated emotional abuse can be.

NO SISTER FOR MONA: Mona's story is told from the perspective of a heartsick and loving sister. At the hands of her abusive husband, Mona's sister was silenced forever and robbed of the opportunity to tell her story from her own perspective.

DIANE & THE COP: Law enforcement has not had a good track record when it comes to "serving and protecting" battered women. While some progress has been made, there is still a long way to go.

JENN vs THE .45: " The .45 was loaded" . . . In February 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment, which is a gun ban for individuals convicted of domestic violence. Guns in a home with a violent male partner drastically increase the likelihood of female partner suicide or murder. Visit the Violence Policy Center for more information on Domestic Violence and guns.

TANYA'S PAIN: Time has still not healed all of Tanya's wounds. But she is trying hard to forgive.

CONSUMING LINA: Retracing her relationship with an abusive older man, who was also her college professor at one point, Lina recounts how the past two years of her life spiraled out of control.

ANN'S MATERNAL HELL: Quite simply, Ann is a mother. And her greatest fear is getting the phone call that her daughter has been murdered by her abusive husband.

CARMEN'S WEB:  It began with sexual abuse at the hands of her step father.
